Let’s Address your Botox Questions

Laughing, smiling, and frowning is all normal facial contractions that happen every day. They are also the cause of forehead lines, crow’s feet, frown lines, and other wrinkles. If you want to smooth out your facial wrinkles and creases, Botox can help. Let’s discuss your Botox questions and concerns.
How does Botox work?
Botox works by blocking the connection between the nerves and muscles. Using a fine needle, Botox is injected into the muscle to stop it from contracting. This results in smoother and more relaxed skin. A Botox procedure takes mere minutes and doesn’t require anesthesia. You will not notice a difference in your appearance until three to seven days post procedure. In preparation for your treatment, avoid consuming alcohol one week before your treatment and stop taking aspirin and anti-inflammatory medications two weeks before. These precautions will help diminish bruising.
What are the side effects of Botox?
Botox is wonderfully effective, but it does carry with it certain side effects during the healing process. You may experience bruising, but it will soon diminish. Some patients have a headache for 24-48 after the procedure, but this is uncommon. A small number of patients experience temporary eye drooping.
Am I a good candidate for Botox?
You should not get Botox injections if are pregnant, breastfeed, or have a neurological disease. Also, it is important to have reasonable expectations of what Botox can do. While Botox can smooth out wrinkles, it cannot treat all wrinkles. Wrinkles and creases caused by cigarette smoking, sun damage, or gravity cannot be reduced with Botox. This is because they are not formed by muscle contractions.
Does insurance pay for Botox?
As a general rule, insurance does not pay for Botox because it is typically a cosmetic procedure. Still, be sure you understand the full benefits of your insurance plan, so you understand the scope of your coverage.
