Botox® vs. Dermal Fillers

Both treatments offer a variety of cosmetic benefits, with the main difference between them being that Botox® treats wrinkles caused by muscle contraction, while dermal fillers address wrinkles caused mostly by volume loss.
Botox® is injected into the muscles of the face to reduce their contractions and temporarily freeze existing wrinkles. It works best on dynamic lines, which are those created when you make facial expressions like squinting or raising your eyebrows. Dermal fillers contain hyaluronic acid, but they are thicker than Botox® and are designed to replace lost volume in areas such as cheeks or lips, giving them a fuller look. They can help smooth away marionette lines, nasolabial folds, and other wrinkles that are caused by volume loss.
The effects of Botox® typically last anywhere from three to six months before another treatment is needed, while dermal fillers generally last anywhere from nine months to a year. The cost for each treatment varies depending on the type and amount used, as well as your particular cosmetic goals.
